StarCraft II expectedly exploded at US retail last month, shifting 721,000 units in the region. Blizzard prints money.
Despite releasing just five days before the end of the month, NPD analyst Anita Frazier said the Blizzard RTS helped PC gaming swell by 103% in July. Not bad for less than a week, eh?
“While video game retail sales show a very slight decline versus last July, we have to consider the success of StarCraft II this month, which helped the PC games category to realize a 103 percent increase in dollars over last July,” noted Frazier.
“PC games and video game industry sales combined for an increase of 4 percent in revenues as compared to July ’09,” she said.
It’s all no surprise of course, as earlier this month StarCraft 2 was crowned the ‘fastest-selling strategy game ever’.
