NetEase (Nasdaq:NTES) has officially released “Wrath of the Lich King” (WLK), the second expansion of its licensed 3D MMORPG World of Warcraft, in mainland China, Netease announced August 31. Players can play up to 80 levels, explore new areas and dungeons and gain more powerful skills, according to the announcement. The company opened a few servers of the game ahead of the 4 p.m. start time, a posting on 178.com’s WoW-specific site said.
The General Administration of Press and Publication’s (GAPP) Shanghai Bureau has not yet received an application for the publication of “Cataclysm,” the third expansion of WoW, Sohu reported August 31 citing the Q&A section of the bureau’s site. The expansion’s operation in the country is not expected to start for more than a year, since its developer Blizzard Entertainment and operator NetEase will focus on the newly released “WLK,” the report said citing unnamed sources.
