Blizzard Entertainment said Thursday that the number of players now subscribed to “World of Warcraft” and its expansions has reached 12 million.
The multiplayer online game topped 11 million subscribers in October 2008.
By now, “WoW” is virtually a worldwide phenomenon, played in North America, Europe, and China, plus Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Chile, Argentina, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The series has launched two expansions, including “The Burning Crusade” and “Wrath of the Lich King,” which recently launched in China. The third expansion, “Cataclysm,” is due to launch on Dec. 7, 2010.
