A Déjà vu

Deathwing (c) Blizzard Entertainment

WoW bloggers have been busy digesting the latest company report of the game’s publisher this week. With some sticking to the usual guessing game of ‘is it dead yet?’ Apparently, the game has stopped growing, and according to Blizz’ CEO (Mike Morhaime) WoW’s current 11.5 million subscriber base remained sluggish in the past 12 months.

I find this a case of déjà vu. You see back in 2008, before the release of Wrath expansion, most commentators reacted in the same guise.

Looking ahead, Blizzard recently launched a new website for Cataclysm (and it’s updated!). The expansion is still scheduled for release sometime in the second half of 2010.

The Video is Not a Lie!

World of Warcraft guild Ensidia’s World First Lich King 25 man kill music video. This song was inspired by saronite bombs*, exploits, and a dislike of cheating. Enjoy! (Original WoWphiles)

* Saronite bombs (and other similar items) was recently disabled to avoid exploits in Lich King fights.

The Lich King Spoof

It’ll be cumbersome to call this spoof ‘music’. Nevertheless, it is relevant to all WoW fans vying right now to kill the King.

World First in Doubt

Doubt is clouding Ensidia’s world first achievement for defeating The Lich King. Yesterday the influential guild posted on its website:

Ensidia did indeed receive a 72 hour suspension for 1 rogue using his everyday normal DPS rotation.

We would like to apologize for some members outburst but we hope that people understand that everyone is quite disappointed and distraught with the whole situation.

Date of Violation: 03/02/2010
Type of violation: Exploitation – Abuse of in-game mechanics or glitches with intent to exploit or cheat in World of Warcraft.
Details: Use of Saronite Bombs to bypass The Lich King fight mechanics
Consequences for Account: Account suspended for 72 hours, all items and achievements gained removed

One cheeky person commented of Ensidia’s world first forfeiture

Agreed. An exploit is an exploit is an exploit.

However, I would like to point out that every one should have KNOWN this would happen, though. We were all told about this waaaaay back in Warcraft 2 when you select the dwarves:

“Bombs are GREAT!”

[EU] Lightning Blade’s Paragon is currently no 1, according to GuildOx. And the only guild with The Frozen Throne (25 Player) achievement. Congrats to the Paragon team!

*** Ed. US guilds vodka and Blood Legion now ranks top 2 and 3, respectively, according to the GuildOx website. It wouldn’t be long before new guilds follow suit. Tick Tock King, your times up. 🙂

Arthas is Russia’s New Top Model!!!

Oriflame ad. Egear.ru

Well not really…

But a new cologne ad making its mark in Russia looks interestingly similar to that of the WoTLK trailer. Watch!

A cologne advert has appeared on Russian TV, which bears a striking resemblance to the cinematic from World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

In the ad, as spotted by Russian site egear, skater Evgeni Plushenko finds himself on a glacier, where he clears a small patch of snow to see what’s underneath, before striking the ice with his skate. A large bottle of cologne then breaks through as Plushenko skates around, presumably helping to break up the ice to aid the bottle’s progress. Or something. (From IncGamers)

Icecrown Trailer by Vodka

Not the official Blizz trailer yet but Vodka released its own Icecrown trailer this week. It’s pretty and got some rave review from Warcraft fansites.

And speaking of patch 3.3, word is the release is tomorrow (December 09) according to Horde Review.com.

  • Patch 3.3 is done
  • Only a few bugs and server issues to be worked out
  • If all goes well with fixing these server issues the patch will release December 8th
